Kranj is the capital of the Gorenjska and the fourth largest town in Slovenia. Old part of the town is like a peninsula above the Kokra and Sava river.

Kranj is a very important Slovenian trade centre.
Kranj is also called the "City of Preseren" because Slovenia's greatest poet, Dr. France Prešeren (1800-1849) lived, worked, and died in Kranj.

Gimnazija Kranj is a school attended by students aged between 15 and 18. It corresponds to an English grammar school and it prepares students for university study.


Gimnazija Kranj is one of the oldest and largest secondary schools in Slovenia. It was established in the year 1810 by the French authorities.
